Rachel Ashley ’13

Rachel Ashley is a double major in political science and biblical studies and a member of the Elijah Project, which is one of Gordon’s honors programs. She is the captain of the Gordon women’s soccer team and the recipient of the Walter O’Connell Alumni Prize for Good Sportsmanship. For two years, Rachel served as the head delegate for Gordon’s Model United Nations team. This past year she received the President’s Award, an honor for the single student who has quietly and faithfully most served the wider Gordon community. It is one of the College’s highest honors. Rachel has worked as a teaching assistant for the Biblical Studies Department and served the Political Science Department as a research and conference assistant. She will work this summer as the assistant program director at Beaver Camp in New York. After graduating, Rachel hopes to attend graduate school and law school and work with immigrant communities, with a special affinity for the Middle East.
Skylar Bareford ’14

Skylar Bareford is an A. J. Gordon Scholar double-majoring in recreation and leisure studies and biblical studies. Skylar is an influential leader on the Gordon women’s basketball team and also plays on the Gordon softball team. Her academic achievements include being the recipient of the Luke A. and Mary M. Wood Memorial Scholarship and achieving Presidential Honors, which is the highest academic honor for a given term. Skylar serves at Grace Chapel as a middle school Sunday school leader and last summer was the co-director of recreation at YMCA Camp Watchaug in Rhode Island. She works for the Gordon Athletics Department as a compliance assistant and served as a basketball coach at Gordon’s summer camp program. Skylar is also a psychology teaching assistant and was the salutatorian of her high school class. Skylar aspires to a leadership career in higher education, perhaps eventually serving as an academic or athletic administrator.
Amber Fiedler ’13

Amber Fiedler is double-majoring in business administration and communication arts and has received Presidential Honors. She served as the vice president of communications for the Gordon College Student Association. Amber is also the co-founder and co-director of Gordon College Scot Radio, where she has worked as a co-host of a weekly radio show in addition to myriad other responsibilities. Amber has held several marketing and communications positions in the private sector, most recently as the marketing intern with BlueLuna, a Boston-based web development and online marketing company. She also has served as the design and style editor of the Tartan, Gordon’s student newspaper. After graduating, Amber hopes to work in corporate communications and eventually assume a leadership role in the field.
Henry Hagen ’14
Hamilton, Montana

Henry Hagen is an English major and an A. J. Gordon Scholar. He launched and led an online community that grew to have over 3,000 members in three years. Henry has taught computer science to high school students through the Consortium Classes, a New York-based homeschooling network. Henry is also an experienced violinist and guitar player who leads worship as a member of the Catacombs worship team, which is Gordon’s weekly student-led worship service. He has been recognized by his county legislature as well as the Albany-based Times Union for his community service work, including serving at the Eddy Senior Service Center as a music therapy volunteer and as a small group leader for middle and high school students. While pursuing his Gordon education, Henry has worked on campus in dining services and interned at Trade Winds Farm, a horse training facility. After Gordon, Henry hopes to attend law school and work with international law and non-governmental organizations in advancing human rights worldwide.
Eric Hilker ’14
Ithaca, New York
Office of the Vice President for Finance and Administration
Eric Hilker is double majoring in political science and biblical studies with Presidential Honors. He served in the U.S. Marine Corps for five years, completing two tours of duty in Iraq and earning a meritorious promotion to Sergeant. As Sergeant, Eric led daily operations for twenty-five Marines. Eric received a Navy Achievement Medal for execution of scheduling tasks in Operation Iraqi Freedom. In addition to pursuing his undergraduate degree at Gordon, Eric owns a carpentry business on the North Shore. He has been involved in the Gordon in Lynn program, facilitating a SALT team and conducting weekly Let’s Start Talking English classes. Eric also developed a Let’s Start Talking missions outreach program in Volcan, Panama. His wife Rachel is a family and marriage therapist, and they are the parents of a newborn baby girl, Esmé. Eric aspires to a leadership position within an organization that advances the development of impoverished communities and developing nations.
K. Trey Walsh ’14

Trey Walsh is a sociology major and a representative at large for the Gordon College Student Association. In his role with GCSA, Trey has been actively involved in the Undergraduate Research Council and the Academic Affairs Council. He is a senior technician with the Center for Technology Services chapel tech crew, where he manages technology needs for major events in addition to training other student workers. Trey is a member of Gordon’s Model United Nations team and serves as an office intern in the Office of Student Financial Services. He is a student leader at Netcast Church in Beverly and has served as a youth group leader as well. In high school, Trey was the stage manager for his school’s theater department. After Gordon, Walsh hopes to attend graduate school and pursue a career in academia.
