Hailey Granger, Class of 2009

"Gordon equipped me to stand strong in my beliefs as I work to improve the lives of children and families."

After completing a double major in Social Work and Sociology and a minor in Spanish, Hailey began working at Children's Friend and Family Services, a Community Service Agency in Lawrence, MA. She coordinated services for children and families with mental illness to help them succeed at home, at school and in the community. In August 2010, Hailey enrolled at Wheelock College’s Social Work Advanced Standing Graduate Program. She is currently completing her Masters internship at a therapeutic day school to help her better understand the whole child and the interconnectedness of systems in a child’s life. For her thesis, she is working in a local community to raise awareness and educate parents of risks involving social media sources.

Javier Serrano, Class of 2008

“I am thankful for Gordon’s positive impact on both my worldview and my vocation.”

After graduation, Javier began a deeper involvement with the non-profit organization Partners for Youth with Disabilities. Having been a mentor for several years, he was given the chance to throw the first pitch at a Red Sox game at Fenway Park with his mentee. Interested in domestic issues like health care reform, Javier has since begun working in the health insurance industry, and plans to pursue higher education studies in public policy.

Shane Mueller, Class of 2007

Since graduating, Shane has found himself in a variety of positions, constantly relying on an education that equipped him with the skills and compassion to encounter humanity in a variety of contexts. After working on the North Shore with families struggling to maintain affordable housing, he earned his MSW at the University of Denver. As a Public Policy Fellow at The Bell Policy center, he worked on policy that regulated predatory lending and broadened access to healthcare in Colorado. Reprising his work at Gordon with the homeless population in Boston, he worked on Denver’s 10 Year Plan to End Homelessness as an outreach worker. He currently works as a Professional Research Assistant at the University of Colorado Denver, researching the health needs of recently released prison inmates.
