Endowed Scholarships Information

What is an Endowed Scholarship?

An endowed scholarship becomes more than original gift given. Endowed scholarships are generally set up by individuals, families, corporations or foundations to establish a permanent scholarship, awarded annually. By definition, an endowed scholarship is one in which the fund principal remains intact and fund distributions are only drawn from the interest that is accumulated each year.

An endowed scholarship is a permanent and personal way for you to make a significant difference in the lives of a number of Gordon students over the years. An endowed scholarship also allows you and others like you, who care about scholarly concepts and Christian faith, to associate your personal legacy with the Gordon College legacy in perpetuity.

HOW DOES GORDON SELECT SCHOLARSHIP RECIPIENTS?

Distributions from endowed scholarships are made according to the specified requirements of each fund. For example, an endowed scholarship might be restricted to children of missionaries, students within the Biology major or residents of Florida. The Financial Aid office consults with appropriate campus resources to seek qualified student recipients. If eligible recipients cannot be found, award income is either held over until the following academic year or reinvested back into a restricted endowed scholarship’s fund. When financial need is the only requirement, The Financial Aid office distributes these awards according to the award level of each fund and the student recipient’s need. Unrestricted endowed scholarships provide the greatest flexibility for helping students with financial need.

HOW DO I SET UP AN ENDOWED SCHOLARSHIP?

Your gift of endowed scholarship will advance the personal transformation and worldwide service of Gordon graduates who “go forth” into the world with the message of the Gospel. We encourage you to establish a scholarship that embodies your values and creates a legacy for those values at Gordon for generations to come.

The scholarship you create can be named in honor or memory of an individual. As donor, you may work with Gordon College to establish a particular set of criteria to determine the student recipient.

The criteria used for scholarships may include, but are not limited to:

  • Academic status
  • Leadership
  • Community service or Christian ministry
  • Financial Need
  • Areas of academic study
  • Geographic Location

The Church needs Christian leadership and commitment to the Gospel more than ever. The world needs them. With that conviction, Gordon College has committed to resolutely pursue endowed scholarships, to empower students for generations. It is our solemn promise to our students to provide for them. We have responsibility to serve them.
