Dwight Tshudy Chemistry Achievement Award
Awarded annually to a student entering the second year of study at Gordon College. Recipients shall show great potential in Chemistry as evidenced by two or more of the following criteria:
Awardees will be selected at the end of each spring semester, and the awards will be granted for the following academic year of enrollment at Gordon College. The recipients will be determined by a scholarship committee comprised of the full-time chemistry faculty and in conjunction with Student Financial Services. The award consists scholarship support for the next academic year and a commemorative book selected by the faculty.
This award is funded by the Gordon College Student Chapter of the American Chemical Society's fundraising efforts and by donations from friends of the department. By unanimous vote of the student chapter, the award was named in honor of Prof. Dwight Tshudy.
Outstanding Teaching Assistant Award
Awarded annually to a student employee of the department who has performed services above and beyond expectations. The awardee is selected by the faculty of the department and will receive a certificate and a commemorative book selected by the faculty. The award is presented at the end of the spring semester.
The award is funded by friends of the Department of Chemistry in recognition of the vital work that student employees provide both as peer mentors and as valuable assistants to the faculty.
Graduation with Honors Thesis
Students who have completed substantial undergraduate research during their studies at Gordon College may elect to write an honors thesis. The student works under the guidance of a thesis committee to craft the document and the work is presented in a public forum. A bound copy of the successful thesis is added to the collection of the college library.
