The Center for Balance, Mobility and Wellness (CBMW) is committed to the promotion of healthy aging and fall prevention, and serves two broad categories of clients.
First, the Center continues to offer clinical, academic, and research expertise for the treatment of individuals with neurological, vestibular, gait and balance disorders.
In addition, 2,500 square feet of the facility is committed to the support of fitness and wellness promotion for healthy adults age 50 and older. This fitness facility also serves as an on-going site for clients who have completed their out-patient physical therapy and wish to move forward with their pursuit of healthy aging and an active lifestyle.
This is a picture of the fitness area inside the CBMW. The fitness area features Keiser pneumatic strength training equipment and SciFit cardio-respiratory training equipment. It is all surrounded by a walking track, and in the distance, you can make out two of our large-screen monitors for keeping track of daily events on cable television.
Gordon faculty and staff are encouraged to join the CBMW where they can enjoy state-of-the-art equipment and expert training advice from physical therapists. Here, Clinical Director, Marie Lucey, P.T. instructs a faculty member in the use of one of the SciFit cardio-respiratory training machines.
The fitness facility is a good place to gather for some great exercise as clients pursue good physical stewardship. Here, a gathering of faculty and staff are sharing time together at the CBMW.
A key element of the CBMW is that it is an educational facility where students of kinesiology can be introduced to the most up-to-date testing equipment available. Here, Marie Lucey, P.T. is conducting testing with the Balance Master as two kinesiology students observe.
Gordon College faculty are closely involved in the operations of the CBMW teachers, researchers, and even working with clients. Here Dr. Sean Clark (Kinesiology) works with a client in some balance training in the Balance Training Room.
The ActiveStep treadmill is an innovative piece of equipment designed by Simbex Corporation to help train clients in appropriate movement responses to perturbations that can lead to different types of falls. Here, Dr. Peter Iltis (Kinesiology) demonstrates use of the ActiveStep to a kinesiology student intern at the CBMW.
A key element of the fitness training area is that skilled physical therapists are always on-hand to help out.
The CBMW is a great gathering place for colleagues and friends. Here, Dr. Peter Iltis and Dr. Mike Veatch (Mathematics) share a few thoughts as Dr. Veatch works out on the treadmill.
The Balance Training Room is equipped with an overhead harness tracking system to insure the safety of clients working on their balance difficulties.
