The Top Six Ways to Show School Pride This Fall

Classes are well underway and with fall fast approaching, Gordon’s sidewalks will be flooded with bright colored leaves before you can even Instagram all the trees. The start of fall means campus is abuzz with activities, so The Bell has compiled a list to make your event planning seamless. We’ll see you out there!

1. Cheer on the Fighting Scots at a home (or away!) game.

Between Volleyball, Men’s and Women’s Soccer, Cross Country, Tennis and Field Hockey, there are plenty of ways to cheer on the College during the fall athletic season. 2. Make your school pride a family affair during Homecoming and Family Weekend

This year is the College’s 130^th anniversary, which makes for an unforgettable Homecoming and Family Weekend. On October 4 and 5, Gordon will be hosting nearly 50 events for the whole family, from a special 130^th anniversary Convocation to the 13^th annual Scot Trot 5k. And for the Enneagram enthusiasts out there, Ian Morgan Cron (Enneagram expert and author of The Road Back to You: An Enneagram Journey to Self-Discovery) will also be hosting a workshop on October 5. 3. Support the arts

Between Barrington’s Gallery, seven ensembles and a nationally ranked theatre program, the arts have a strong influence on campus and their creations are a must-see. 4. Check out CEC events

The student-run Campus Events Council (CEC) holds creative events for students each semester to encourage on-campus involvement. This semester, CEC will host the Gordon Globes, Winter Ball, concerts and open mics, and several movie nights. If you’re looking for an opportunity to meet new people and enjoy a fun evening on campus, check out the next movie night on October 25 at 7 p.m. CEC also hosts the Scottie Bowl—the annual all-star flag football game—and the Highland Games, a battle of the residence halls, during Homecoming and Family Weekend.

5. Hear from globally renowned speakers

Each year, the Center for Faith and Inquiry (CFI) hosts a series of lectures given by diverse and well-known speakers. CFI also partners with the John Templeton Foundation each year and hosts the Herrmann Lectures, honoring the work of Dr. Robert Herrmann who addressed the “big questions” related to science and religion. This semester, Dr. Praveen Sethupathy, associate professor in the Department of Biomedical Sciences at Cornell University, will be discussing the new frontiers in biomedical research, DNA editing, and what it means to be human, over the three-day seminar, October 7–9. 6. Christmas at Gordon

Over the past three decades, Gordon’s Christmas festivities have become the largest celebration on the North Shore. Make the most of Gordon’s holiday cheer with the tree lighting program and catch a hayride at Christmas at Gordon on December 5, or check out the annual Christmas Gala that sells out each year.
