Gordon College is pleased to announce the launch of an exciting endeavor that capitalizes on the College’s standing as the flagship Christian school near the financial hub of Boston. The new one-year Master of Science in Financial Analysis provides students from diverse academic backgrounds a strong foundation to launch into business careers and be well prepared for professional advancement. Taught by seasoned industry practitioners within the context of a professional peer learning cohort, students develop essential business and analytical skills within a framework of Christian values and high ethical standards.
“Gordon College’s M.S. in Financial Analysis will develop the next generation of financial analysts and executives with the kinds of skills and faith-based values so needed,” says Dr. Robert Howell, program instructor and senior partner of the Howell Group, LLC. Dr. Howell previously served as the David T. McLaughlin D’54, T’55 Distinguished Visiting Professor of Business Administration at the Tuck School of Business at Dartmouth, and is considered one of the foremost authorities in the world on the changing role of finance and accounting. He holds an MBA from the Wharton School of the University of Pennsylvania and a DBA from Harvard University.
Also teaching in the program are Gordon Hall ’81, Alice Tsang and John Truschel. Mr. Hall is chairman of the board of Archrock, Inc., the leading natural gas compression services company in the U.S., and lead independent director of Noble Corporation, a leading global provider of offshore drilling services headquartered in the United Kingdom. He holds a master’s degree from MIT’s Sloan School of Management.
Alice Tsang, CFA, is professor in the practice of economics and business and director of global partnerships at Gordon. Prior to teaching, she experienced a long business career at several industry leaders, and garnered analysis expertise in corporate, public and structured finance.
John Truschel, CFA, is the principal and portfolio manager for Mercer Investment Management. He previously served as the chief investment officer and head of global investment strategy for The Boston Company Asset Management, where he directed investment activity and managed the firm’s product development, quantitative research and portfolio engineering teams. Mr. Truschel holds an MBA from the University of Pittsburgh.
"This program creates a classic WIN-WIN-WIN opportunity,” he says. “For the graduates, it is a WIN as they gain skills, insights and wisdom to help launch them into a successful career—but more importantly into a calling as ministers in and to the marketplace. For Gordon, it is a WIN that broadens and deepens our Kingdom impact and our contribution to the common good. And for the financial services industry it is a WIN that introduces market participants with both practical skills that are highly valued and a biblically shaped ethical compass that is desperately needed.”
Courses will be held on Gordon’s campus starting this fall. Just 25 miles from Boston and a few hours from the financial and political capitals of New York City and Washington, D.C., Gordon’s location provides students with access to a worldwide network of opportunity and experience as they work to bridge their liberal arts background to a focused business career.
