Graduate Programs to Expand into Finance and Science

To further prepare students for leadership in their professions, industries and communities, Gordon College plans to expand its graduate-level offerings. Three new programs, expected to begin within the next 18 months (pending approval from the Board of Higher Education), will include a Master of Arts in Leadership, Master of Science in Financial Analysis, and Master of Science in Materials Science. “By launching these graduate programs, Gordon College will build upon its historic success of preparing graduates to lead in churches, industry, government, schools, academia, medicine and many other professions,” said Dean of Academic Initiatives Dr. Jewerl Maxwell. “The three new programs are each unique and innovative. They remain true to Gordon’s commitment to graduate men and women distinguished by intellectual maturity and Christian character, while offering new opportunities for graduates to excel in a variety of professions.” The Master of Arts in Leadership will expand upon Gordon’s current graduate education program, and is designed for students interested in a broader, non-licensure degree. Taking a liberal arts approach, the M.A. in Leadership will explore leadership theory and practice through a wide range of courses and perspectives to prepare students for diverse leadership positions. This will serve as the only leadership program taught from a Christian perspective within the greater Boston area. Building on Gordon’s proximity to Boston—an international finance hub—the Master of Science in Financial Analysis will serve as an entryway for liberal arts graduates moving into finance careers. Regular program completion time will be 12–15 months; however, Gordon students will be offered an accelerated “four + one” degree completion option, allowing finance majors to complete their master’s degree within 12 months of their undergraduate graduation. The cohort-based curriculum will be guided by the global standards of the CFA Level I and II exams, and will offer a global economics experience in Hong Kong as well as a hands-on internship component. The Master of Science in Materials Sciences will build upon the expertise of several faculty within the Division of Natural Sciences and provide students with extensive research experience. The traditional two-year track will include significant coursework for the first year and transition into research during the second year. The only program of its kind among Christian liberal arts schools, the M.S. in Material Sciences will pioneer the integration of faith into high-tech vocations. The program will serve as a pathway to highly respected Ph.D. programs at research universities and careers in the high-tech industry.
