Programs Seek to Enrich Leaders’ Current Vocations and Positively Impact the Communities They Already Serve
WENHAM, MA - March 18, 2025 - Gordon College’s School of Ministry, Theology and Biblical Studies today announced a Master of Arts in Theology for Community Transformation and a certificate program in Scripture, Theology and Transformation. Now accepting applicants for fall 2025, these new offerings will provide flexible, theological education for faith leaders seeking to be at the forefront of active change in their communities.
“For a long time theology degrees were only linked to full-time work in the church, but we believe theological education should be for everyone,” said Dr. Jason Myers, program director and Gordon College professor of New Testament. “We've developed a new approach that equips anyone to lead—regardless of profession. This M.A. and certificate are designed to come alongside leaders in the communities they already belong to and empower them to think theologically and contextually.”
Gordon’s new offerings boast affordability, efficiency and a flexible format to fit any lifestyle. Requiring just 30 credits, students enrolled full time can complete their master’s degree in two years for $24,000, and part-time students can complete the full degree in three years. The Scripture, Theology and Transformation Certificate requires 9 credits, totals $7,200 and can be completed in 10 months.
Asynchronous online coursework will engage core subjects in theology and biblical studies while addressing impactful topics such as facilitating spiritual experiences, ministering to people in pain, telling a compelling story through creative communication and building effective organizations for community transformation.
“At Gordon we believe our worship and understanding of God are expanded when we learn alongside people who serve in other contexts and come from different Christian backgrounds,” said Dr. Sharon Galgay Ketcham, dean of the School of Ministry, Theology and Biblical Studies. "As the first graduate-level offerings within our School, we purposefully designed this program to enrich lives through Christian community while also celebrating a student’s call to leadership and equipping them to be an effective changemaker.”
This innovative approach to graduate theological studies respects cost sensitivity by removing financial surprises through all-inclusive pricing. In addition to tuition, the full program cost includes multiple four-day, in-person learning intensives where students have a chance to connect with program faculty, network with other Christian faith leaders and worship alongside their cohort. For those pursuing the master’s degree, a 10-day international capstone trip to a part of the world that has helped shaped Christianity—Greece, Israel or Italy—is also included in the price.
“By offering an international experience, our theological students can personally delve into the historical, social and geographical contexts they’ve learned about in class,” said Dr. Sandra Doneski, provost and executive vice president for academic affairs at Gordon College. “We’re confident this innovative program and these global, firsthand experiences will help faith leaders further develop their expertise to meet the changing needs of people in their communities.”
These programs are the latest in Gordon College’s commitment to providing continued education tailored to the careers and passions of today’s workforce. Gordon currently offers over 15 postgraduate programs to more than 500 graduate students.
The Master of Arts in Theology for Community Transformation and the Scripture, Theology and Transformation certificate program are currently taking applications for the inaugural cohort of fall 2025. Alumni of Gordon are eligible to receive a 10 percent discount on tuition. Interested applicants can apply at gordon.edu/graduate/theology.
