8 New Academic Programs
Posted on June 28, 2021 by College Communications in News.
The pandemic may have put a pause on much of life over the past year, but Gordon’s academic offerings actually grew in the process. Eight new programs across the College’s residential and online degree programs equip students to serve and lead in a variety of fields and settings—from speech-language pathology to ministry to organizational leadership.
Black studies minor
This new interdisciplinary minor aims to foster intercultural competence and equip students to thoughtfully engage with the national conversations of the day. Students will learn what it means—both historically and now—to be Black in America by understanding the experiences of African Americans through the lenses of history, literature, music, theology and sociology. Beyond building a foundation of understanding, students will be encouraged to address the role of individuals and institutions in ensuring a more equitable reality for all people.
Communication sciences and disorders (CSD) major/minor
For aspiring speech-language pathologists (SLPs) or audiologists, the new CSD major and minor offer a prerequisite education for state licensure or graduate school. Gordon’s faith-based interdisciplinary approach builds the necessary foundational knowledge while also equipping students to minister well to the needs of children and adults struggling with speech, language, cognitive, hearing or swallowing disorders.
Five-year pastoral degree program
The Dokes Ministry Scholars program is an accelerated pastoral degree program for students who feel called to full-time ministry or theological study. Students earn two degrees in five years: a B.A. in biblical studies or Christian ministries from Gordon, and an M.Div. or M.A. from Gordon-Conwell Theological Seminary. By shaving two years off the traditional completion time for both degrees, students save money and enter their careers early.
Online business administration concentrations
Three new concentrations have been added to the fully online adult learning bachelor’s in business administration: digital marketing, human resource management and supply chain management. Taught by seasoned industry professionals, these three tracks offer relevant, applicable material in an interactive learning format.
Organizational leadership online program
Adding to the inaugural four online adult learning programs offered through the new School of Graduate, Professional and Extended Studies is a new B.A. in Organizational Leadership. This fully online program equips students to be effective managers in a multicultural world. It prioritizes the needs and experiences of the online learner by offering a highly active and interactive learning environment on a flexible schedule.
Sport management concentration
A new concentration within the business administration major, sport management exposes students to the broad and diverse field of athletics. Students will take advantage of being just 25 miles from Boston (home to major professional sports franchises) as they simultaneously develop tangible business skills, hone their management style and learn how to live out their faith on the gym, field or court.
These eight new programs are just a handful of the more than 90 majors, minors, concentrations and interdisciplinary programs offered at Gordon. See the full list >
