Health Professions

Overview

Healthcare workers who care about the human side of medicine are in demand now more than ever. Our health professions minor offers a unique opportunity for students majoring in a non-health science area to also study healthcare from a perspective of competence and compassion.

By choosing from one of seven tracks, students will be prepared for the specific graduate school admission requirements for their intended health profession:

  • Pre-Medicine, Dentistry, Veterinary
  • Pre-Nursing
  • Pre-Occupational Therapy
  • Pre-Optometry
  • Pre-Pharmacy
  • Pre-Physical Therapy
  • Pre-Physician Assistant

Why study health professions at Gordon?

Our location just outside of Boston, a city that houses some of the country’s top hospitals and medical facilities, such as Dana Farber Cancer Institute and Massachusetts General Hospital, offers endless opportunities for research and education. In our advanced, on-campus human anatomy lab, you’ll take part in hands-on dissection—a rare opportunity for undergraduates.

Your faculty advisor will ensure you have personalized, laser-focused coursework to prepare you for successful entry into postgrad programs. Besides gaining a strong science foundation, you’ll also learn to embody Christ by developing the soft skills of compassion, hospitality and care that are critical for success in your field.

What can Christians bring to health professions?

Christians in health professions care about the human side of medicine and approach their work with a servant’s heart. By seamlessly blending their faith with their profession, they can incorporate compassion for people and animals into their day-to-day practice.

Careers

Life after Gordon

What careers can I pursue with Health Professions?

Gordon students are successfully accepted into medical schools and post-grad programs at twice the national average. A minor in health professions offers many career options depending on which track you choose:

  • Pediatric nurse
  • Large-animal vet
  • Oral Surgeon
  • Sports medicine specialist
  • Oncology surgeon
  • Family practice doctor
  • Eldercare physician assistant

"Throughout the [medical school] application process, I was asked about my significant life experiences—many of which happened during my Gordon career. These included English-teaching mission trips to Jordan, being a part of the Jerusalem and Athens Forum, and working on embouchure dystonia research with Dr. Iltis. While each of these experiences certainly looks impressive on a resume, they’ve impacted me more deeply through what I’ve learned from them."
