Rachel Jong-in Chang Yoo, Ph.D. – Assistant Professor of Communication Arts
Rachel holds a Ph.D. in Communication Studies from the University of Iowa. She also earned an M.A. in Communication from Seoul National University and a B.A. in English Language and Literature from Ewha Womans University in Seoul, Korea. Her research interests include digital media, globalization, cultural identity, consumerism, and popular culture. Her main research interest is how digital media have reconfigured the religious ritual, community, and institution. Her current project focuses on the formation of religious identity through media. In particular, the project studies on how young adult Muslims perceive and appreciate their religious identities in different social contexts and how they communicate with others about religion as a subject matter. Prior to joining Gordon, Rachel taught various courses of Communication and Media Studies at George Mason University and George Washington University. She feels honored to contribute her talents and energy to future Christian leaders and to serve the colleagues and community of Gordon College.
