Psychology

Overview

Why do people think, act, and feel the way they do? How do we as Christians unpack behavioral and mental health issues in the context of faith? What experiences encourage personal growth?

As a psychology major, you will learn about what it means to be human by exploring connections between the mind, brain, and behavior. You will also acquire valuable career skills to solve practical societal problems, from diagnosing and treating psychological disorders to understanding how the brain and body works and conducting cutting-edge research. Choose one of our four concentrations to focus your studies: Clinical Psychology, Cognitive Neuroscience, Human Development, or General Psychology.

Why study psychology at Gordon?

Explore the human person with outstanding faculty who are deeply invested in the lives of each individual student. Together, you will learn to integrate your faith with psychology as you grow spiritually and professionally. Through coursework and mentorships, you will have the opportunity to participate in hands-on internships, evaluate treatment modalities for psychological disorders, and contribute transformative ideas that make a meaningful impact on both our local community and larger society.

Our extensive internship program offers personalized placement based on your career goals. You will have internship opportunities at psychiatric hospitals, crisis centers, district courts, therapeutic music programs, shelters, counseling centers, residential homes or juvenile justice systems.

What can Christians bring to psychology?

According to our Christian tradition, every human is made in the image of a caring Creator God. Christians in psychology benefit from having a deeper understanding of the actions, feelings and thoughts that relate people to their physical, social and spiritual contexts. By embracing a life of service, these professionals can meet people in some of their most challenging moments and offer encouragement, hope and actionable solutions.
