Lauren Kenyon Enright’s La Vida Experience

La Vida built within me a sense of courage and safety as I pursued a life of adventure.

Since my La Vida experience, I have done a lot of solo backpacking, and it has required a lot of courage to get through it. Once I did it once, I saw myself wanting to do it again and again and again.

Just this past year, I solo-hiked a 42-mile trek from Pine Creek to Mammoth and skied some treacherous terrain. These adventures are a part of life-long passions that I want to keep at the center of who I am and how I spend my time. However, in order to do those adventurous trips, I need to be organized and be responsible.

On my La Vida trip, our leaders insisted that we keep ourselves in check—simple things like asking if we had everything packed. It is so simple, but it made all the difference when we were actually in the backcountry. Now, when I go out into the wilderness alone, I think back to my La Vida trip and the rhythms that were instilled in us.
