La Vida participant and sherpa from 1987–1989
Vice President of Marketing at Hope International
Lancaster, PA
As I reflect on my time with La Vida, I can see that I was spiritually immature, but that is a part of my spiritual journey. I was able to work alongside fellow leaders that impacted my desire to grow in my understanding and application of Scripture. As I worked alongside others, I developed a high sense of serving others. As a leader in the workplace, I still hold this value closely in mentoring staff members and working alongside them.
LaVida encourages participants to be bold, to make the ‘‘commitment move’’, and to enter where it may be uncomfortable. While the obvious application is to place yourself in the woods on solo (with no food and little communication) or to reach for the next handhold on a rock climb, the deeper applications are how to live out one's faith and apply it daily to the life you are living. Sure there are valleys in life and lots of time spent climbing over the difficulties; I have gained a perspective that God provides the perseverance and hope needed to reach his goals.
