Political Science

Overview

What does justice really mean, especially from a Christian perspective? And how can we actively pursue public justice in a polarized world?

These are just some of the questions you’ll unpack with a political science degree at Gordon College. Alongside dedicated peers, you’ll study governmental structures, political procedures and the interplay of power and justice at all levels to develop practical strategies for your chosen vocation. Over the course of your studies, you’ll explore the four subfields of political science—American Politics, Comparative Politics, International Relations, and Political Theory—and graduate prepared to effectively engage in public life. In addition, students within the political science major may choose to concentrate in Law & Public Policy or Peace, Security & Conflict Resolution.

Why study political science at Gordon?

Our accomplished faculty will help you respond to our Christ-like calling to act justly, love mercy and walk humbly in a life of public service. In this program, you’ll have the opportunity to work closely with professors and peers on substantive projects.

Political science faculty work hard to facilitate honest conversations by asking open-ended questions. With our internship program, you can put theory into practice at forums and organizations in places as far as Zagreb or São Paulo or as close as Washington DC or Boston.

What can Christians bring to political science?

As Christians who believe in a God who loves justice, we’re needed in political spaces and conversations now more than ever. Christians in politics can speak up for the marginalized, support quality education for all children, encourage care for God’s creation and look to balance the scales of justice. In their work and interactions, Christians can actively demonstrate that it’s possible to respect others’ differences and even help bring about reconciliation.
