International Affairs

Overview

Interested in impacting the world for good, but not sure where to start? In a world of division and conflict, it can be difficult to move towards cooperation, especially across lines of social change, poverty and public justice.

Gordon College’s international affairs major will equip you with vision, courage and context to effect change locally and globally. Get big-picture understanding of the major institutions, identities and economic forces that drive our world. Explore different cultural perspectives and discover how to turn creative ideas into action.

Enhance your studies with one of two concentrations:

  • Sustainable development: Integrate Christian ethics with global development strategies for a holistic approach to economic growth that addresses present needs while ensuring future generations thrive.
  • Peace, security and conflict resolution: Learn methods to resolve conflict and understand the needs and fears of others, equipping you to compassionately help people move towards reconciliation.

Why study international affairs at Gordon?

As a nationally ranked Christian liberal arts institution, Gordon’s program explores how Christians can apply faith in practical ways in the international arena. Studies combine political science, economics and language training, so students are fully prepared to enter the field or graduate school.

With connections from faculty and a strong alumni base, many of our international affairs students complete internships in the US or internationally with agencies such as International Justice Mission, the State Department and World Vision.

What can Christians bring to international affairs?

Our faith gives us a solid foundation to help bring unity and reconciliation across borders of all kinds. By practicing the disciplines of active listening and peacemaking, and with a passion for justice and human flourishing, Christians in international affairs can build bridges and bring hope to some of the most challenging conflicts.
