Overview
What if you could turn a child’s fear of math into curiosity and confidence? What if you could equip children with foundational early math skills while simultaneously shaping the way they think about problem-solving for the rest of their lives?
Gordon College's elementary math education minor allows you to deepen your understanding of mathematics and prepares you to teach using evidence-based practices. Education majors completing this minor will be prepared to add on the mathematics 1-6 teaching license.

We aim to make mathematics accessible and engaging for all learners. The National Council on Teacher Quality ranks Gordon College’s elementary math preparation among the top 15 percent in the nation.
Our mathematics and education faculty are committed to preparing you to teach mathematics by gaining a deeper understanding of mathematical reasoning. Throughout the method-based coursework you’ll have practice teaching opportunities with targeted, personalized feedback to help you maximize your impact.

Many education classes at Gordon have a classroom observation and teaching component, providing students a tangible way of practicing what they are learning. My experience in my pre-practicum and practicum during my senior year was the best training I could have asked for in terms of preparing me to teach full time. As I started a teaching position after graduation, I knew I could count on the skills I’d acquired during my years at Gordon to help me successfully navigate the world of a first-time teacher.
