Music, Art and Theatre Scholarships


The Adams School of Music and the Arts at Gordon College is delighted to award renewable scholarships to music majors, theatre majors, art majors, music and musical theatre minors, and music ensemble participants who demonstrate outstanding aptitude and interest in music, theatre or art. 

Music Leadership Award & Music Education Honors Award

$18,000 per year ($72,000 over 4 years)

(Replaces all other Gordon aid.)

The Department of Music is pleased to award these signature scholarships to 12 incoming music majors (B.M. in Music Education, B.M. in Music Performance, B.A. in Music) each year who demonstrate exceptional musical abilities, and who exhibit the potential for musical leadership and service in their field.

Music Leadership and Music Education Honors awardees benefit from strong mentoring relationships and a commitment to serving our communities now and in the future. Through the nurturing of their God-given musical gifts and passion, each student will explore their calling through an intentional, personalized approach that undergirds and supports their development as Christian musicians, educators, scholars, and performers. Throughout their time at the Department of Music, each student will experience life at the intersection of faith and music-making, and will develop a path forward through college and into the future where they will maximize their impact as leaders for Christ and the world.

Program Description:

The Gordon College Department of Music graduates musicians fully equipped for success in today's complex world. Each of the department's degree programs combines a performance-oriented, nationally accredited education with real-world experience, cultivating young adults who possess exceptional skill and knowledge, with the potential to have a crucial impact globally. Music majors receive musical training and mentoring from highly accomplished faculty. They join a strong, supportive community dedicated to academic and musical excellence, and to living at the intersection of faith and the arts. Music students study, practice, learn, compose and perform in the Department of Music's state-of-the-art facilities.

Requirements:

Perform your audition by February 22, 2025. Live and Zoom audition dates are available in December, January, and February.

$3,000—$4,000 per year

Scholarships are awarded to music majors who demonstrate outstanding abilities in performance and/or who show significant potential as future music educators.

Music major scholarships are stackable and depending on a student’s merit-based academic scholarship, the total annual scholarship amount for a music major scholarship recipient could range from $11,000–$16,000 per year.

Students must audition by the end of April 2025 to be eligible for a music major scholarship. All scholarships are awarded by the faculty to incoming music majors based on their entrance audition. Auditions run from December to April. Awards are stackable and renewable annually based on the successful completion of scholarship requirements so long as the student is actively enrolled as a music major. Specific requirements regarding GPA, performance, professional development, and departmental service may apply.

$3,000—$4,000 per year

Scholarships are awarded to theatre majors who demonstrate outstanding abilities as actors, directors or designers, and a desire to contribute significantly to Gordon’s theatre community. While students do not need to audition to be accepted as a Theatre Arts major, students must audition if they wish to be considered for this scholarship.

These Theatre Scholarships are stackable and depending on a student’s merit-based academic scholarship, the total annual scholarship amount for a theatre major scholarship recipient could range from $11,000–$16,000 per year.

Students must audition by the end of March 2025 to be eligible for a theatre major scholarship. Please note that Theatre Auditions are being offered during Theatre Experience days on November 2, 2024 and March 29, 2025. All scholarships are awarded by the faculty to incoming theatre majors based on audition. Awards are stackable and renewable annually based on the successful completion of scholarship requirements so long as the student is actively enrolled as a theatre major. Specific requirements regarding GPA, performance, professional development, and departmental service may apply.

$3,000—$4,000 per year

Scholarships are awarded to art majors in the design studio or fine arts studio concentrations who demonstrate outstanding artistic abilities through a portfolio review.

These Art Scholarships are stackable and depending on a student’s merit-based academic scholarship, the total annual scholarship amount for an art major scholarship recipient could range from $11,000–$16,000 per year.

While students do not need to submit a portfolio for entry to the art major, students who wish to be eligible for an art major scholarship must submit their portfolio by the end of March 2025. All scholarships are awarded by the faculty to incoming art majors based solely on their portfolio submission. Awards are stackable and renewable annually based on the successful completion of scholarship requirements so long as the student is actively enrolled as an art major. Specific requirements regarding GPA, performance, professional development, and departmental service may apply.

$1,000—2,000 per year

Scholarships for music minors and musical theatre minors are awarded to students who demonstrate well-rounded musical abilities and a willingness to engage and contribute to the Department of Music and/or Theatre program.

Students must audition by the end of April 2025 to be eligible for a music minor scholarship. All scholarships are awarded by the faculty to incoming music and musical theatre minors based on their audition for the Department of Music. Auditions run from December to April. Awards are stackable and renewable annually based on the successful completion of scholarship requirements so long as the student is actively enrolled as a music minor. Specific requirements regarding GPA and departmental service may apply.

David Rox Instrumental Ensemble Scholarship & Alton C. Bynum Choral Scholarship

$1,000 per year

Scholarships for ensemble participation are awarded to students who are not music majors or minors. These are awarded to eligible, incoming students who demonstrate a high level of musical proficiency, and a desire to participate in Department of Music ensembles during their time as a Gordon College student.

Students must audition by the end of April 2025 to be eligible for an ensemble participation scholarship. Scholarships are awarded by the faculty to incoming students based on their audition. Auditions run from December to April. Awards are stackable and renewable annually so long as the student is actively enrolled each semester in the ensemble they have been assigned to.

How to apply for music scholarships
Prospective students who have been admitted to Gordon and have auditioned for the music program (major, minor or ensemble) are automatically considered for our music scholarships—no additional paperwork is necessary. All returning majors are eligible annually for department scholarships, awarded by the faculty for exemplary musical and academic leadership.

How to apply for theatre scholarships
Prospective students who have been admitted to Gordon and wish to be considered for a theatre scholarship must complete an application and audition.

How to apply for art scholarships
Prospective students who have been admitted to Gordon and wish to be considered for a theatre scholarship must submit a portfolio.

Institutional scholarships
Gordon awards several merit scholarships based on academic achievement and excellence. Each year, more than 70% of first-year students receive a renewable, merit-based scholarship. Adams School students may receive institutional scholarships along with music scholarships. Learn more ➔
