Overview
We make sense of our lives and learn about others when we tell truthful stories. The theatre offers a place to tell these stories to an engaged audience through the collaboration of a creative team. Come join a community of servant-leaders using talent on and off the stage to bring truth and light to the world.
Studying theatre at Gordon means learning in a supportive, Kingdom-minded environment where emerging artists have the opportunity to risk boldly, explore curiosities and be fully immersed in the creative process. In our Christ-based community all members are equal contributors, both in the classroom and in productions, ensuring full support during your time at Gordon.
Why study theatre at Gordon?
Named among the “Top 20 Best College Theatres” in America by the Princeton Review, Gordon’s theatre program is a shining star of the Adams School of Music and the Arts. Our holistic approach will give you a well-rounded understanding of how professional theatres operate, opening doors to new opportunities and fostering a spirit of collaboration—the cornerstone of theatre.
In our Apprentice Program junior and senior students can apply for paid opportunities to practice leadership and focus on growth in a specific area. With one-on-one guidance from professional designers, directors and the technical director, apprenticeships include hands-on learning in lighting, sound, carpentry, marketing, costumes and stage management.
What can Christians bring to theatre?
Theatre wrestles with conflict. It creates a safe space to unpack and discuss some of the most uncomfortable, challenging topics of today. Christians in theatre can help give voice to people who are unheard through the vehicle of live storytelling.

“My professors at Gordon were incredible teachers and directors; they equipped me so well by teaching me the basics of acting and giving me opportunities to do shows alongside my learning. But the greatest thing they taught me was how to put God at the center of it all. When performing, it's hard to not make it about yourself; after all, you’re the center of attention. But as Christians we need to find the line between playing a character and not doing it for your own glory.”
