Music Performance

Overview

A hallmark of Gordon College's Adams School for Music and the Arts, the Bachelor of Music in music performance offers a rare opportunity for students to receive professional musical training in the context of a Christian liberal arts curriculum.

Develop your artistic voice and hone your mastery of your major instrument while expanding your understanding of music history, theory and pedagogy. Gain hands-on performance experience through performance opportunities, adjudicated solo recitals, master class participation, chamber music and large-ensemble work. Dedicated and highly accomplished faculty mentors will support the cultivation of your professional purpose as a musician, walking alongside you as you pursue your creative passion as in the image of our Creator God.

Why study music performance at Gordon?

Our faculty will mentor and nurture you, making an individual investment so you can fulfill God’s gifting. Be motivated and stretched in the practice room, classroom and onstage to develop your talents to their fullest. From weekly musicianship classes to world-class recitals in Phillips Recital Hall, you’ll be exposed to a wide variety of experiences. You’ll also be just around the corner from the concert halls of Boston, one of the great musical cities of the world.

The faith-grounded maturity grounded our graduates carry into the world helps them succeed as highly respected music educators, performers in orchestras and in careers as varied as arts administration and music therapy.

What can Christians bring to music performance?

Christians in music purposefully acknowledge the Source of their artistic gifts. Through their musical performances Christians can help connect audience members back to their Creator. They can spark beauty and light in an often-dark world, bringing healing in the most surprising of moments. Christians can strive to cultivate hearts of service, using their musical gifts to worship God and serve their communities.
