Music Education

Overview

Gordon College’s music education major will equip you to share your love of music and learning with the next generation.

Our hands-on approach will have you working in K–12 classrooms during your very first semester of college. Research-backed methods, personalized courses, mentoring and ensemble performances will prepare you to become a music educator with the power to harness every individual’s innate musicality. After graduation you’ll be eligible to pursue licensure for K–12 teaching in instrumental, choral or general music in Massachusetts, with reciprocity in 48 states.

Why study music education at Gordon?

Gordon has had a 100 percent music education teacher placement rate for 20 years.

Be part of a strong, supportive community dedicated to academic and musical excellence at the intersection of faith and the arts. At Gordon you’ll compose and perform in our state-of-the-art facilities and have access to world-renowned conservatories and concert halls on the North Shore and in nearby Boston. Our faculty and cooperating mentors in surrounding public school districts will share best practices and the most current national standards in music teaching and learning.

What can Christians bring to music education?

Listening to music has the power to lift us out of ourselves. Music educators have an incredible opportunity to bless students of all ages and backgrounds by introducing them to power of music. They also have the unique chance to identify special skills in young people, train them in their gifting and watch them flourish into performers and creators.
