Overview
Gordon College’s fine art studio minor offers rich exploration of diverse artistic media, fostering both technical proficiency and creative expression. Through courses in painting, sculpture, drawing, photography and printmaking, students develop their artistic skills while engaging in an interdisciplinary approach to creativity. This program nurtures aesthetic awareness, keen observation and innovative problem-solving skills, valuable assets for any career path.
Why study fine art at Gordon?
We believe art-making is a valuable way of knowing and glorifying God. As image-bearers we imitate God’s creativity, faithfully seeking shalom through the work of our hands. Gordon’s fine art students are theologically minded, creative problem-solvers who can think broadly and adaptively. Rooted in the Christian liberal arts, with professional studios and talented professors guiding you, you’ll discern how Christ has equipped you as a maker.
You’ll also develop skills and dispositions to be well-prepared for graduate and professional programs. Our students enjoy regular trips to Boston and New York City to explore stunning galleries and world-class museums.
What can Christians bring to fine art?
As Christ-centered artists we are called to cultivate human flourishing by ordering and drawing forth that which is good, true and beautiful. In an image-saturated world prone to over-consumption and distraction, art has a unique capacity to encourage a renewed appreciation for the meaning and purposes of God’s creation.

"Gordon's Art program [fosters] wonderful student-mentor relationships. Professors make themselves available as professional artists for students to ask questions about the art world. My professors helped me extensively with my graduate school application, and I appreciated all their input."
