Art

Overview

Ready to develop a life of creating works of art and design?

Gordon College’s art program explores the pursuit of design and creating art within a life of Christian faithfulness. Gain the knowledge, skills and dispositions needed to share your creative gifts, offering meaningful art and design to your community and the world. Fine arts and design are integrated into our Bachelor of Arts degree through concentrations and offered to students of other majors through our minors.

Why study art at Gordon?

Our program incorporates vocational discernment and career development into studio learning. At Gordon you’ll join a community of makers—both current students and alumni—that embraces ongoing conversations about integrating art, design and Christian faith. Our faculty are accomplished artists and designers with advanced degrees from the Rhode Island School of Design and Harvard’s Graduate School of Design.

Be inspired by Gordon's 485-acre wooded campus and our location on Boston’s picturesque North Shore. As part of your studies, you’ll also join classmates on trips to museums and galleries in Boston and New York City.

Choose a concentration to deepen your studies:

  • Design studio: Learn best practices for weaving print and screen, analog and digital methods together.
  • Fine art studio: Engage in a wide exploration of the fine arts that will challenge you both technically and creatively.

What can Christians bring to art?

Art creates spaces for people to talk, think, and reflect on the big questions of life. Christian artists and designers can create reflections of and spaces for God’s work of reconciliation and transformation as responsible makers in service to others.

"Gordon's Art program [fosters] wonderful student-mentor relationships. Professors make themselves available as professional artists for students to ask questions about the art world. My professors helped me extensively with my graduate school application, and I appreciated all their input."
