Choose your program
Master of Music Education (M.M.Ed.)
Take your music education career to the next level without taking time off from teaching through the Gordon College master’s degree in music education. This unique summer-only hybrid program combines online and on-campus coursework with peer-led music lab ensembles that will improve both your musicianship and teaching skills.
Initial Licensure
If you have completed a bachelor’s degree in a discipline other than music education, this program is for you. Evening and summer classes easily fit into your schedule, whether you’re a working professional, career changer or current teacher. Completion of this music education degree will make you eligible for the Initial License in Music, which enables you to secure a K–12 music teaching position in Massachusetts public schools.
Professional Licensure
Choose this music education graduate program path if you already have your Initial License in teaching and hold a master’s degree in a discipline other than music education. Consisting of 12 credits selected from our summers-only master’s degree in music education, this graduate program leads to eligibility for the Professional License in Music.

NASM Accreditation
Gordon College is fully accredited by the National Association of Schools of Music (NASM).
Gordon’s teacher education programs are approved by the Massachusetts Department of Education and the National Association of State Directors of Teacher Education and Certification (NASDTEC). Graduates of our programs are eligible to obtain an initial teaching license in the 50 member states on the basis the NASDTEC Interstate Agreement. The candidate may have to complete additional requirements, such as coursework, teacher tests, or classroom experience, before receiving a full professional certificate in the new state. After seeking the MA license, the Teacher Candidate should be familiar with the licensure requirements and procedures of the new state from which licensure is desired. Teacher candidates should check with the Department of Education in the states in which a license is desired to ascertain information concerning additional requirements that may be required.
