If you have completed a bachelor’s degree in a discipline other than music education, this program is for you. Evening and summer classes easily fit into your schedule, whether you’re a working professional, career changer or current teacher. Completion of this music education degree will make you eligible for the Initial License in Music, which enables you to secure a K–12 music teaching position in Massachusetts public schools.
Choose this music education graduate program path if you already have your Initial License in teaching and hold a master’s degree in a discipline other than music education. Consisting of 12 credits selected from our summers-only master’s degree in music education, this graduate program leads to eligibility for the Professional License in Music.
Licensure- only students at Gordon College are welcome to participate in our Summer Workshops for professional development purposes, or to accumulate graduate credit. In some cases the Program Director will strongly encourage participation based on a need to build foundation in music theory, and other subject matter knowledge requirements set forth by the MA Department of Elementary and Secondary Education.
The Post-Baccalaureate Initial License in Music and 12-Credit Option for Professional License Programs at Gordon College underwent a recent detailed approval process as part of a required re-accreditation visit from the Department of Elementary and Secondary Education this past April, 2011.
